Eastern Georgia Travel Itinerary: Day 1
Arrival in Tbilisi Airport and transfer to the Tbilisi hotel.
The High Travels representative will meet and greet you at the airport to take care of your rest. The transfer time from Tbilisi Airport to a hotel will take 25 minutes.
Tbilisi Tour: Day 2 of Eastern Georgia Travel Itinerary

The tour will begin in the Old Tbilisi, boasting medieval architecture of different styles. Must-see locations are:
- Sameba Cathedral – the largest Orthodox church in Georgia.
- Transfiguration Monastery – a little oasis in the city center.
- Metekhi – an ancient church with a picturesque panorama.
- Narikala Fortress – a shelter during invasions in Tbilisi.
- Lunch at the restaurant (extra).
- Anchiskhati– the church dating back to the 4th century.
- Sioni Cathedral - an ancient coronation site of Georgian patriarchs.
- The Church of St. John of Divine – a Russian-style church.
- Mama Daviti – dates back to the 6th century.

Tbilisi – Mtskheta –Zedazeni – Tbilisi: Day 3

We'll head to the ancient capital of Georgia – Mtskheta, one of the oldest cities, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In Mtskheta, we will see:
- Jvari Monastery (Monastery of the Cross) – built in the 6th century on a hill where the Rivers Mtkvari and Aragvi meet each other.
- Svetistskhoveli Cathedral – the church contains the Robe of Christ and Prophet Elijah’s sheepskin cloak.
- Samtavro Nunnery – the missionary site of St. Nino, who was believed to have brought Christianity to Georgia.
- Lunch at the restaurant
- Shio Mghvime Monastery – founded in the 6th century by the Assyrian father, Shio Mghvimeli.
- Zedazeni Monastery – Zedazeni Georgian Orthodox monastery in Zedazeni northeast of Mtskheta and to the east of the Aragvi River. The monastery was founded by Saint John, one of the holy Assyrian Fathers of Georgia, whose mission was to strengthen Christianity in the region. Legend claims St. John deliberately chose this place because of a heathen idol there.

The capital of the ancient kingdom of Colchis, Kutaisi, is the third most populous city in Georgia. It is home to numerous historical sites, among them are:
- Davit Gareji – a monastery complex curved in huge rocks, a center of theological education.
- Udabno Monastery (Desert Monastery) – an impressive place carved in rocks.
- St. Nino Nunnery – Bodbe – a burial place of St. Nino.

Recognized as the “Cradle of wine,” Kakheti has a history of winemaking that dates back 8000 years. Get acquainted with the unique types of wine while visiting the historical sites:
- Gurjaani Kvelatsminda Church is an example of a two-dome church design in Georgia.
- Shuamta Monastery represents a basilica dating back to the 5th century.
- Ikalto Monastery is one of the most famous cultural and scholastic centers, built in the late 6th century.
- Gremi Church – once the capital of the Kingdom of Kakheti, a complex is the only surviving building of the flourishing town.
- Nekresi Monastery – established in the 4th century AD, the monastery is one of the oldest constructions in the country.
- Lake Ilia is a well-known recreational zone named after Georgian Saint and writer Ilia Chavchavadze.
- Kvareli Tunnel is a famous winery where you can partake in wine degustation.
- Velistsikhe is a wine museum and the Georgian wine degustation site.

Kazbegi, located on the Great Caucasus Mountain Range, borders Russia and is the second-highest volcanic summit in the Caucasus. On our way, we will stop by several locations that define the region:
- Lomisa is the ancient shrine of St. George, a monument of Georgian architecture on the Ksani and Aragvi watershed ridge. It belongs to the IX-X centuries.
- Ananuri Fortress is a castle complex of the 13th century, built on the Aragvi River.
- Gergeti Trinity Church was constructed in the 14th century at an elevation of 2170 meters; it has quickly become the symbol of Georgia. Take a jeep tour to Gergeti.
- Dinner in the family environment.

The next destination is Gori - a city, known as the birthplace of Joseph Stalin.
- House-Museum of Stalin – featuring the Soviet era; the museum provides immense information about the leader’s life and work.
- Uplistsikhe is an ancient rock-hewn town, unique for its unusual merge of several rock carving techniques.
- We will head to a famous resort town – Borjomi. The place is a natural monument of spring waters.
- Dinner in Borjomi.

- Borjomi Park is full of pine trees with mineral waters flowing from under the ground.
- Temple of St. Seraphim of Sarov, depicting St. Seraphim praying on the rock.

- Mtsvane Monastery is hidden amidst the woods; everything is green here, including the church. For this reason, it was dubbed Mtsvane Monastery ("mtsvane" means "green" in Georgian).

Borjomi– Akhalcikhe– Vardzia: Day 9

We will see the most outstanding constructions and historical hotspots in southern Georgia.
- Rabati Fortress is a medieval complex constructed in the 9th century in Akhaltsikhe. Conquered by Ottomans in the late 16th century, the settlement remained the Orthodox Christian site until invaders left the region.
- Vardzia is a rock town carved into a cave in the Golden Age of Georgia, late 12th century. It remains one of the most important Orthodox Christian sacred sites due to its unique wall paintings and rich history.
